The Drama 03:22
First up on the list is a victim Was a big fish in a small town Whoever listened he would tell tales Of how he was running shit But really he was just sniffin blow and playing Call of Duty Til the AM Sleepin all day he stopped payin for the drugs Started burnin wannabe small town thugs over ounces of green Collecting guns His little team disbanded On some mutiny He even took his family for loot Sitting on a dirty futon Cleaning his pieces That he never shoot Bearing no fruit Telling his friends back on the East Coast That these little Midwest kids is getting taken for they milquetoast But really now he's all alone When he's off the phone Burned too many bridges Bad business bad karma Now he's itchin To take the weight off And be free from it Starin down the barrel To see what he could see from it He caught the drama Next up on the list Is a sister Lookin for love in the wrong places Whoever kissed her Fell into a web of worries and stress Yes duress was the only way she knew How to express her love She would push pull and shove Until her lover would snap She didn't know that she was Baiting a trap Caught up in a circle of vicious Denial never thought for a sec that she would have to stand trial For her selfish ways So she kept stackin the days Full of scorn and malaise Putting her lover in a haze of confusion that eventually would turn to regret But she had no sympathy or respect for their predicament She just kept living with this sense of self entitlement But nobody owed her shit She was just a spoiled American brat Who never gave back Until her body turned to dirt then she was forced to at last She caught the drama Last and straight least Less a man than a beast Another hot shot kid Who Joined the local police No compassion or remorse Quick to use brute force He would take out his aggression If he didn’t endorse Your lifestyle Lucky if you made it to trial Because he saw fit to judge men Brown skin was a no no Woe unto a brother Coming to his town solo No laws were broken Probable cause invokin the self-righteous Christian Puritan on a mission What he didn’t know though When harrassin a homo Who was just hanging out his homie caught it on a Go Pro Now the whole world know Bigotry no longer local Hate mail and death threats That’s when his wife left She took the kids They took his badge and left him with his gun Slid the barrel in his mouth and squeezed the trigger like a coward He went out like a sucker For abusing his power He caught the drama

I'm the master of elements, and I say it's no lie. I freeze enemies in their tracks. Their faces go cry Icicles with blades like a knife to make them comply. Have a seat. The lights went out? It's all in the plans. I keep the entire stage brighter with my fireball hands. My secrets are safe. I would never uncover the code. You might not survive, but that's part of the fun of the show. Relax. They always say in life, "Get your mind right." It's the same people who claim lightning never strikes twice. I'll move tectonic plates if it gets me a good review. Feeling the earth quake for a second is super cool. I keep my satchel packed with the neatest of tricks. Like the great Keizer Soze, I don't even exist. My hip hop instrumentals deliver a hype crowd. Surprise! You're listening to one of my beats right now. CHORUS You know I got tricks To put on a show With the sleight of hand and a solid flow In the place tonight With imagery that’s tight and a countenance that’s grand Yes I’m a humble man But still I got tricks To engage your mind With the sleight of hand I think that you will find That when you let go The things that you will see Will help you to believe the magic That you have hidden just up your sleeve SCHAFFER THE DARKLORD Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to be astounded Mesmerized, mystified and all around confounded Dumbfounded, I will make magic Nothing's as it seems, including this fake accent Wait, take a back step, I'll clear up all confusion Call me Doug Henning 'cause I call it all illusion Yeah, I can make a hanky vanish, I can make a ball appear Or I break your freaking brain, but I'ma need a volunteer Hop up here, inspect this box, ensure there's nothing funny at it While you're at it, I'll produce a couple dozen bunny rabbits From my hat, it's magic, man, it's madness, lie inside it, love I lock it, saw it in half - TA-DA! - Look, it's a bunch of doves Never tip gaffs to rubes or their sons or daughters Even when shackled in tubes, inverted underwater I open with the Indian rope trick, I’m so sick Tell me that I’m dope, I’m like “no shit.” CHORUS You know I got tricks To put on a show With the sleight of hand and a solid flow In the place tonight With imagery that’s tight and a countenance that’s grand Yes I’m a humble man But still I got tricks To engage your mind With the sleight of hand I think that you will find That when you let go The things that you will see Will help you to believe the magic That you have hidden just up your sleeve

Near the End 03:04
COOLZEY I stepped out of my house and noticed that my garden was all full of weeds So I got down on my knees Rolled up my sleeves and started pulling things Years went by I stopped to get an Americano Looked down at my work and swore to God someone was fooling me Because everything had grown back I was like if I would have known that I would have just copped a six pack and gotten blown back Not the type to give in though And so I carbed up Took off my shirt and began my second attack With the weed wack and the Roundup Tearing the fucking ground up Couldn’t hear my radio I kept steadily turning the sound up Until it finally maxed out That’s when I blew my back out Looked at my bloody fingers with confusion and I blacked out When I came to it was dark I thought ‘right’ I must have missed the rest of the day It’s probably night But when I stood up I was shook Because it was midday and the freshly grown weeds had been completely obstructing the light BELLY BELT All becomes clear near the end See all of your fears near the end COOLZEY Now innovation is my game Not patience So I came to the realization That I had to coexist with these things So I cut a few down And mashed them up into a paste Spread it on my toast But I didn’t like the taste I ran some through the juicer To see what I might extract But when I ingested it It just induced pain in my digestive tract So I cut some down and dried it Then I broke it up and smoked it For a minute I felt nothing But then my brain split open I rose up above my little house Above my little town I couldn’t see my garden soon Just mountains clouds and oceans And as I came back down I saw the other people illing Standing in their backyards Just bugging out and killing Everything they didn’t like Everything that didn’t fit Everything they thought was ugly Everything they deemed unfit Now there’s no way this was real I’m sure I was only dreaming But to this day I swear The weeds sounded just like people screaming BELLY BELT All becomes clear near the end See all of your fears near the end

about

Coolzey and Soce the Elemental Wizard connect cross-continent LA to NY to create this 5 song EP of all new hip-hop and indie pop records just for you.

'When I first started touring as Coolzey with Schaffer the Darklord around 2005, Mark would show me rad contemporary music (I was still stuck in the 90s) that I didn't know about. He showed me the video for Soce's 'Sad and Lonely' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqK0kMKWsn0 ) and I was just taken by the fierce and dark comedic juxtaposition of Soce's happy beats and voice with the tragic subject matter. We became friends shortly thereafter. Our collaboration 'Graduation Day' from 'Coolzey and the Search for the Hip Hop Hearts' is the most popular jam from that album (www.youtube.com/watch?v=PklaAyx7T7Q ) . I get more requests to perform it at shows than any other song in my catalogue. I wanted to try and capture the same juxtaposition of slapstick comedy and serious tragedy in my lyrics that moved me in Soce's work while still retaining my voice.

I also am a strong supporter of Andrew being an unapologetically openly gay rapper in the homophobic hip hop world. I support gay rights and feel that the gay community is still not anywhere near as accepted as they should be in the present day. I was even kicking around the idea of titling the album 'Support Gay Rights or Die' just to get it into people's faces but I felt that it would have been misleading to the content, and we settled for the more inviting 'Coolsay'. These 5 songs were whittled down from at least twice as many that I was working on. There was a bonus 6th track available only with the pre-sale, and then it was purposefully vaulted.' -Coolzey
