I got a warm place that I like to call home baby I'll clear my schedule and I'll call you right back Pick up my guitar and I'll sing a little poem honey That's how it is in my dilapidated shack I got my good friend on the drums and he stays in the pocket baby I'm never worried long as he's on the throne What kind of government would kill their own kind honey I know it's happening but I don't know How they justify Maybe they don't justify nothing I don't trust if I follow all their rules That they still won't come in my land Shotgun in my hand Sitting on my porch drinking beer in a can Don't wanna play your game anymore I've already seen this a couple times before I got a warm place that I like to call home baby I'll get some trees and I'll call you right back Pick up my guitar and I"ll sing a little poem honey That's how it is in my dilapidated shack

You feel the people all around you There's something that they want from me They want to take a piece of my life Don't wanna let me pass for free I'm so psyched Stepping out the door into the sunlight Walking down the street to this beat Think what I'm gonna write Strings seem to mingle with sunbeams Fresh Kils you've done it again my friend But then something unseen triggers my defenses Instinct commences to heighten my senses Coming from behind the fences Glares of straight hatred Looking me up and down With frowns from the matrix Well I got news for you Louie The shoes that you are wearing Are probably worth more than the amount That I got up in my checking account But that doesn't stop me from handing out cigarettes Is this the reason that I haven't gotten bigger yet And stay steady accruing a bigger debt I don't know and I couldn't care anyway Because I gotta do me Here you go bro I hope you have a better day You feel the people all around you There's something that they want from me They want to take a piece of my life Don't wanna let me pass for free Hypocritical egotistical swimming pool Of poor people on drugs Is what we are all living through Insecurity impurity and obscurity Toxicity city scapes Trying to get into each other's pants By any means necessary Punch tackle stab This is how you get legendary Welcome to the colisseum All I'm seeing here Is a bunch of brainwashed buffoons up in the room Cheers I do realize that my words betray pathology It may seem I'm unwittingly consumed by ideology But if I were to repent and offer an apology I'd probably be deemed weak And risk forcible sodomy That's the vicious cycle that I'm living in Like a never ending acid trip That shows no signs of giving in So what should I do? Deploy a deadly attack Or just lay back with life hacks And enjoy being this cat called Zach You feel the people all around you There's something that they want from me They want to take a piece of my life Don't wanna let me pass for free

Sanctity 03:15 video
By the dark-lit night of my dreams Under the weight I felt the crush I had something I was desperate to tell you But I lost you in the rush I tried to pretend to myself that it was okay Look at me going about my night Posing for ghosts and rough sketches of people Poisoned with fear and wasting time The years contained within a single moment Heavy as a sledgehammer to the head The weeping crippled who have lost their focus All catatonic in their beds What keeps their souls from slipping on Well I don't pretend to know All I got is this feeling That takes me down and keeps me low To waiting rooms humble and private Waiting for what I forgot I know one day it will come back to me Now I'll pretend to read these magazines I found you running around my dreams again I swore this time that I would stay Right by your side no matter what you did This time I wouldn't go away No I can't bear to think about that time I left you crying in the streets That was the worst thing I have ever done

As you hide behind the door Tallying up your lessening score I'm kissing hands and shaking babies Out amidst the deafening roar But it's not from sellout crowds It's from the voices that I hear Maybe ever since I put that seashell to my ear And listened to the abyss Something's been amiss I plucked a couple cards from the deck And I tore them up to do a party trick And ever since then I've been trying To pull them out from behind the ears of total strangers As you've probably guessed They mostly think I'm sick Is it just me or is everyone always saying Don't touch me The best way to contact me Is to tackle me like rugby You can't trust me like the government Or McDonald's because I'm loving it At the republican national convention I'm fondling Sarah Palin with oven mitts I opened the ark of the covenant by accident During the sacrament And melted my minister's skin off his bones So now I'm back to win Sorry for the audacious tangent But I rhymed myself into a corner again

Here I come on the drum Call me Bendy McGraw Because I get the job done On the one and the two For some bread and some stew Watch me dumb on a loop Like a bum on a stoop For some beer and some soup Just a peer in a group With a fear of the coup Shed a tear for the troops who have fallen Not talking about the ones overseas Or in the militaries I'm talking about the refugees in America Victims of the corporate political Individuals who are critical Artists who are pivotal Treated like we're needed Greeted like criminals Jumping through flaming hoops To scoop the most minimal inadequate provisions Uninsured for collision But liable for damages Affects the decision And curbs the enthusiasm Discourages imagination Feeling like an incomplete equation Looking for ways into Scrooge's gold coin room So I can take a dip in the money pit Where motherfuckers act fun with The simplest of transactions Messing with a fraction of a fraction of a Fraction of some blood from a stone This is the place I call home Alone with the phone lines cut No love sitting on bone But with nothing but a urge to fuck

In my life if I learned one thing One day I want to cry the next I jump up and sing People in my life if I learned one thing One day I want to cry the next I jump up and sing Solo in the fall then I yolo in the spring Vegan barbecue I never know what to bring King in the castle and a bum in the slum Both gonna have their final day will come From suburbian home to refugee on the run Both gonna have their final day will come If you catch a pop from saying that thing that's life If you get your spot blown being that way that's life If you get your calm from being that way that's life If you get your joy from laughing and playing that's right Easy for you they say it's easy for Never have they walked a single day in my shoe Easy for you they say it's easy for me Anxiety Nobody knows all the trouble I've seen They take me for a mark because I'm kind not mean Jealous of your life because it seems so clean And so they say that the grass is always green If you catch a pop from saying that thing that's life If you get your spot blown being that way that's life If you get your calm from being that way that's life If you get your joy from laughing and playing that's right

about

Public School Records has announced the release of a new CD/Digital EP entitled Kilzey for October 27th. The nine track offering joins Midwest musical journeyman / emcee Coolzey with Toronto producer/musician Fresh Kils.
Like-minded accomplices, both artists are inspired by hip-hop but regularly take that inspiration to other genres. This release goes even further, showcasing a new dimension of Fresh Kils production, incorporating everything from country to reggae. In turn Coolzey takes on a range of lounge, folk and pop vocal melodies while still reminding us of his emcee skills through the tongue-twisting feats of ‘Macrobytes’ Kils also reveals his production arsenal by utilizing live instrumentation including guitar, bass and keys throughout.’
Speaking on the pairing, Fresh Kils revealed “I essentially gave Coolzey access to my entire catalogue since 2001. He selected all these offbeat gems that had been passed over by emcee's looking for more conventional hip-hop sounds. It's a side of me I never thought there'd be a home for and that’s part of what makes him such a unique and important artist; he sheds light on things, expands the art form and he's unafraid.”
One of these musical curve balls on the album is lead single “Strange Ways” which was actually a musical composition that Fresh Kils wrote and played with a reggae/dub band during live shows. With Coolzey’s chanting and additional verse by Dominique LaRue, the track is a sunny dancehall-punk jam that wouldn’t be out of place on 90’s alt radio.
The only other guest emcee is 8-bit obsessed emcee Mega Ran who appears on the horrorcore track “Please Don’t Kill Me.” Speaking on the project Coolzey echoed the admiration saying “Kils is the most total package of anyone I know in music including being adept at engineering and mixing. So in one respect he makes it very easy for you to focus on the creative process and in another respect he’s also not letting these songs go until he is satisfied with the final result. We live for challenge!”

Coolzey Fairfield, Iowa

Golden era hip-hop roots planted in black Iowa dirt are the foundation. Growth tempered by alternative era rock influence. This along with a love for the juxtaposition of the dark, horrific nature of life paired with a slapstick and comedic view of the world allow for a wide, unpredictable arsenal ranging from soul-spilling indie bedroom rock to wise-cracking battle rap and on to radio pop. ... more
